Shyam

Music is a strong influence for me. I find I am unable to paint in silence and even when I am out and about working outside, I have my ears plugged in!

One day in a tearing rush (as usual) I took a new CD with me so that I could listen to it in the car.

Halfway through the first track I had to pull over and start again to listen properly.

I could see the painting as the music unfolded………

Shyam is Hindu and means Lord, Master, Husband or even God.

The singer is desolate to be without her man, and even although it was her choice to be separated, she cries, “I have been bitten, scratched and I am cursed. The Universe has done its’ worst, I am so lonely, my Shyam!”

And this picture is that moment when it all just becomes too much (we all know that feeling) and you just want to howl at the moon.

She is standing on a wall or on the top of a building because I wanted to reinforce the idea that she is on the edge.
